Focus on Eritrean election Part 6

Focus on election 2001 (Part Six)
By Tesfamicael Yohannes
April 23, 2001
I recall focus on election 2001 (Part Five) March 12, 2001 at

For today, I am going to debate two topics of concern that seems to me relevant to the on going discussion for election 2001.

The first topic will be "Personality versus System in Eritrean politics” and the second topic is " If not now, when?”

First topic Personality versus System in Eritrean politics

First I would like to introduce my self and the way I conceived Eritrean politics early at my childhood. I am born in Asmara at the early 50s’ and grown up at Abashawel just at the avenue to the way to "cherHi” near Alem Meharena oil and Biscuit factory. There was a priest called Keshi Beraki at the vicinity to my resident and it was there I learned alphabets. Keshi Baraki used ...

Focus on Eritrean election Part 7

Focus on election 2001 (Part Seven)

I recall my article by the same title (Part Six) April 23, 2001 at

Today’s topic is "culture of secrecy and suspicion”

In part six of the series " Focus on election 2001” the debate was concerned on establishing a system of governance in Eritrea instead of basing the administration on trust to a personality of a leader. The debate emphasized that the personality of a leader is seemingly correct and a choice for stability and harmony of a country as long as the personality is alive. But taking in consideration no personality is alive forever, the devastating collapse of nations to chaos after the removal of the personality either because of natural or man made consequences is a lesson at present circumstances.

A leader who is loved, respected and trusted by its people has the right ...

Focus on Eritrean election Part 8

Focus on election 2001 (Part Eight)
By Tesfamicael Yohannes
May 28, 2001
I recall my article by the same title (Part Seven) May 09, 2001 at

In part seven, the topic was "culture of secrecy and suspicion”. Under this topic I tried to say few words on the economical status of Eritrea and I said, "To tell you the truth, with out reservation, about the economical status of Eritrea, if it would not have been of the natural factor that the Eritrean people is hard working people by now the country Eritrea would have collapsed. I am going to come back with this sensitive topic some other time in detail” That was my promise and today I came back to say it in detail.

Today’s topic comprises of different terminologies regarding the arena of the political, economical and social status of the different actors on the expected election 2001 ...

Focus on Eritrean election part 9

Focus on election 2001 (Part Nine)
By Tesfamicael Yohannes
September 07, 2001
I recall my article by the same title (Part Eight) May 28, 2001 at

In part eight of the same topic I discussed the interest of elites working with the government, which I called them the "On” side in relation to blocking or enhancing democratisation in Eritrea. I mentioned that democratisation in Eritrea to succeed the interest of the elites and that is the security of their livelihood should be granted in case they lose power. In part eight the emphasis of the subject matter dealt with dilemma Eritrea faces during the processes of democratisation. It enlightened that unsuccessful democratisation could result in violence. To save Eritrea from chaos and to bring harmony, stability and prosperity to the people the interest of the elites in the " On " side should be taken in consideration. As I ...

Focus on Eritrean election part 10

Focus on election 2001 (Part Ten)
By Tesfamicael Yohannes
September 10, 2001
I recall my articles by the same title (Part Eight) May 09, 2001 and (part nine) Sept 7, 2001 at

To grasp what I am talking about in this article it is imperative first to read the two articles mentioned above.

In part eight, I discussed about the plight and fortune of the elites siding with the Eritrean government. I labelled them The "On” side. I said that the "On” side to be favourable for Eritrea’s democratisation they should be granted a livelihood for the future in case they lose power. Otherwise they would not be nice people for democratisation to succeed in Eritrea.

In part nine I mentioned about the opposition groups to the government. I labelled them the "Off” side. I characterize them as fruitless to the democratisation and development of Eritrea. I categorically rejected ...
