American New Initiative On Eritrea/Ethiopia Border: Why Now?

American New Initiative On Eritrea/Ethiopia Border: Why Now?

I think I should start by saying, Why not now? After almost 4 years no significant progress has been made as far as demarcating the border, even though there has been a final and binding decision by an international court. For one reason or another all the guarantors of the Alegeris agreement, AU, UN, European union and last but not least the United States have all turned their head the other way, as Ethiopia continuously refuses to accept the ruling that could bring a final and a lasting peace. To our dismay these same Guarantors of peace have found all kind of unnecessary reasons to even find Eritrea to be the blame for the failure of this peace plan. One could safely say at this point the UNMEE has failed and short of packing their troops from the area, which the secretary ...

UNMEE Could Have Done Better JOB.

UNMEE Could Have Done Better JOB.

It is going to be about more than four years since UNMEE started its patrolling the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea. Mostly, the UNMEE think that thanks to them the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea is quite. On the other hand, Eritrea and Ethiopia believes that; it is not the UNMEE that is keeping order and tranquility, apart from few incidences, but the good will of both countries to abide by the session of hostilities signed in Algiers on December 2000 that helped to this time keep the border from confrontations. Be it the UNMEE or the good will of Eritrea and Ethiopia or the contribution of all concerned bodies, anyhow there is no occasions that lead us to blame for not tranquil to this date. The most important thing is the agreement of cession of hostilities is practiced irrespective whom the praise is ...

USAID IN ERITREA

USAID IN ERITREA

USAID in Eritrea is a humanitarian and good gesture of America towards the Eritrean people. Having put the positive side on this way the negative side is; USAID is a tentacle of US policy to engulf and capture sovereign states under its imprisonment.

Some body may wonder that when somebody is in prison and says I am not going to have your food to the binder, on the other hand the binder has the obligation to feed its imprisoned body. This is to say that when the imprisoned is in hunger strike the binder tries to force the imprisoned to get food. The reason is if the imprisoned dies in the hand of the binder there is going to be a legal sue against the binder.

A person who wants to be free and sovereign in its own affairs, he or she has to be self reliant ...

Verdict of people versus verdict of the Hague for Ethiopia.

Verdict of people versus verdict of the Hague for Ethiopia.

There is a verdict of boundary commission between Ethiopia and Eritrea, that is given in the international court on 13th April, 2002, in the Hague, Netherlands. Ethiopia says it accepts the verdict in principle but will not accept implementing it unless its concern are fulfilled.

Well, now, there was a parliamentary elelction in the 15th May, 2005, in Ethiopia. The ruling clique says the Ethiopian people has given its verdict. Before the official results released the opposition and the governing body are accusing each other of bad practices. Especially, the opposition are not satisfied with the behaviour of the governing body. The following is an article from CNN.com.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (Reuters) -- Ethiopia's main opposition party on Monday threatened to boycott the next parliament unless accusations of fraud and rigging are investigated and new polls held.

The main ...

Arbitration versus Demarcation.

Arbitration versus Demarcation.

By Tesfamicael Yohannes

Lets begin by definitions. According to the advanced learner’s dictionary of current English, (that is the only available dictionary for me at home) arbitration and demarcation are defined as follows.
Arbitration: settlement of a dispute by the decision of somebody chosen and accepted as a judge or umpire.
Demarcation: marking of a boundary or limit; separation:
Having the above definitions at hand while Ethiopia asks for arbitration of the border dispute Eritrea asks for demarcation. There is clear distinction between the consequences of arbitration and demarcation. Why Ethiopia prefers arbitration than demarcation? Why is Eritrea insisting on demarcation?
Before we proceed analyzing the case of Ethiopia and Eritrea lets first see at the dispute we had with Yemen about the Hanish archipelago. As we recall the dispute between Yemen and Eritrea was solved by arbitration. There is anger and frustration among Eritreans the ...
